Summer Reading Challenge

The Thompson Public Library’s Summer Reading Challenge is on now! From July 1st to August 31st, anyone with a library card can pick up a Summer Reading Challenge log from the Thompson Public Library for the chance to win some prizes. All ages are welcomed and encouraged to join.

 

Only books from the Library or Libby counts towards the challenge. Once logs are complete on both the front and the back, they can be dropped off with a name and age of the child clearly printed at the Library. Please do not email or facebook message logs.

 

Each child will get a paper flower pot to put on the window and a paper flower that represents the 20 books read. Each log equals one flower.

 

Three winners will be announced when the reading challenge is over.

Proposed Municipal Pesticide Program

Pubic Notice is hereby given that The Town of The Pas intends to conduct the following Pesticide Control Program during 2024. To control noxious weeds along sidewalks and park areas within the town. The projected dates of application will be from August 10, 2024 to October 1, 2024. The herbicides to be used include: Potassium salt of Glyphosate, Dimethylamine salt of 2,4-D, Dimethylamine salt of Mecoprop-P, Dimethylamine salt of Dicamba. Senior and Elders Exterior Home Care

Seniors and Elders living in their homes can get their grass cut, exterior windows washed and maybe even their deck and stairs painted for free until the end of August.

Paint Lake Daytrip for Seniors and Elders

The Thompson Seniors Community Resource Council is planning a day trip for Seniors or Elders who would like to take a trip out to Paint Lake. The trip will take place on Wednesday, August 28th and will cost $10 to participate.

 

A bus will take the participants to the Paint Lake Marina where they can relax with refreshments and company before being returned home.

Emergency and Standard First Aid Courses

From 9:00AM to 4:30PM

The University College of the North is offering Emergency and Standard First Aid courses.

 

The Emergency First Aid courses will help those attending learn skills such as CPR/AED, obstructed airway procedures for adult, children and infant emergencies, and recognizing and responding to respiratory and circulatory emergencies such as asthma, allergic reactions, heart attacks, strokes and bleeding. The Standard First Aid courses contains all the content of the Emergency First Aid course and additionally teaches in-depth understanding of first aid such as how to treat head/neck injuries, soft tissue and musco-skeletal injuries and medical emergencies.

 

The courses will run August 27th, October 28th or December 3rd for the Emergency First Aid and August 27th and August 28th, October 28th and October 29th or December 3rd and December 4th for the Standard First Aid. All classes are from 9am- 4:30pm at the UCN Campus. The Emergency First Aid course cost is $150 plus $7.50 GST per person and the Standard First Aid courses costs $243 plus $12.15 GST per personn. Deadlines to register and make payments are August 13th, October 11th, and November 19th.

 

Tuition must be paid in order for seats to be held. Refunds will be issued if course is cancelled or if the student wishes to withdraw so long as a withdrawl form is submitted to UCN within 10 business days prior to the first day of class.
